Labor day

Our Non-labor, Labor day
We ate lots of ice cream, we slept and yes that is Mark playing the Wii. It was very satisfying to do absolutely nothing on this Labor day. We didn't have to fight traffic, or the crowds. Sometimes labor day can be so laborious with all the work of BBQ's, packing, unpacking, traveling and entertaining. This is one of the first years that we literally did nothing and it was nice and labor free. Hope you all had a nice labor day.

Sick or Seeeeek?

Growing up if we told my mom we were sick and couldn't go to school. She would ask us. "Are you sick or seeeek?" (seeeek pronounced with a german accent) How this came about was when my oldest brother was in his first year of high school he didn't really like the school or the kids. So he would call home often saying he was "sick". After many times of this happening the family joke was that you were either sick, which meant throwing up, fever, runny nose etc. But if you were faking it or too lazy to go to school and just needed a break from it all then you were seeeek.
So when Christian woke up this morning he said he was sick. I was a little suspicious and thought he was seeeek, especially since he didn't finish his homework from the night before. I let him stay home anyway, and it turned out he really was sick. Sometimes you just don't know if they are sick or seeeeek. And sometimes it's fun just to be seeeeek and get extra love and attention from mom. Okay you just better not be sick tomorrow I've got things I really need to do.
He looks pretty healthy to me. But I do remember him throwing up once this morning, so maybe I should feel good I didn't infect his whole class.

Bangs or Botox???

Bangs or Botox?
Posted by Picasa
I heard it somewhere that women after 30 need to decide if they want bangs or botox. So now that I am well into my 30's I am realizing why. So the other day when I got my haircut I made sure my stylist gave me bangs. The other day Carson informed me he didn't like those things that covered my eyes. I wasn't sure what he was talking about. (oh the bangs)
Which reminds me of a childhood memory. Each summer I would go to visit my grandma in Germany, she always had something critical to say to everyone. Her favorite with me was my hair. "Oh, you should really cover that forehead of yours" she'd say. Then the next summer I would come with fresh cut bangs and she'd say "you really shouldn't cover your beautiful forehead with those stringy bangs." So back and forth it went every summer wondering if she would approve or disapprove of the hair.
So now I must ask myself is it bangs or botox or perhaps both?
Pick your poison ( literally poison do you know what botox is made from).
What will it be for you?

Homework Torture sessions

We've got the homework blues
Another year, and yes a another year of torturing kids to do homework. Although I think we have finally come up with a plan that works so everyone is happy and mom is no longer the bad guy. Here is a glimpse of how everyone does their homework.
Jacob tries to quickly get his done, with some push back, but not too much of a fight.
Christian likes to draw it out for as long as possible with lots of interruptions, snacks, drinks, questions, bathroom breaks, chat time with mom etc. I think he likes to use his whole afternoon and evening laboring over his homework. But when he finally gets it done he is so proud and happy and I am so relieved.
Carson is happy and busy building legos since there are no brothers to deal with during torture sessions. And of course he is playing with "Baby" (which by the way they were reunited last week and have been inseperable since.) Yes and that is Carson wearing fleece pajamas with feet on one of the hottest days of the year. He took his evening bath got his P.J's on and insisited on wearing them.

I scream, you scream, for Ice cream

It's one of those hot, hot days where the only good thing to eat for breakfast, lunch and dinner is ice cream. Is there a limit on how much they are allowed to eat in one day? They come from school hot, sweaty, red faced and in need of a cool down. This is the best option I have for them, they aren't complaining!! Oh, to be a kid and eat ice cream without the guilt of calories and then the sabotage of thinking how long I need to run on the treadmill to get rid of that delicious ice cream I just inhaled.

My friend Potato

Carson has a new friend "Potato" at preschool. He talks about him all the time and it sort of makes me giggle. I can't seem to correct him and tell him the boys correct name which is Mateo, because it's too cute when he tells me about Potato. You can kind of see how he might get the two words confused. Maybe Carson has too many potatoes (earwax) in his ears so he can't hear the difference between Potato and Mateo.
So the first time he told me about him he said "Mom, I know you thinking I am joking you when I tell you his name is Potato, but it's for real. I heard my teacher call him that." How can I not take him seriously when he is so grown up about it?
I'm not sure how this boy's mom feels about his new name and if I should bring it up to her. I hope she wouldn't be offended, but she might. The other day at preschool his teacher tells me that now Carson is starting to call him Mr. Potato head. So now I am thinking that maybe I should sit down and tell him Potatoes real name so that we don't hurt any ones feelings.

Camo Anyone?

Camo anyone? So the joke around our house is that mommy is painting the walls camouflage. (Now you see the children now you don't) It's a fun game we play. But now the joke isn't so funny anymore after living with all kinds of paint samples and colors all over the walls. It's time to decide and I just can't!!! I need some serious help. I am feeling a little dysfunctional and stuck. I can't seem to make up my mind and then when I am about to make the final paint purchase is when I decide I don't really like any of the colors. Maybe I should have just kept the walls the color they were. Anyone have any colors they could suggest????
